dip your toes in

1. dip a/your toe in (the water)=to start very carefully to do or become involved in something that you are not experienced at（小心尝试，探索，摸索）

5. bite off more than one can chew in sth=to try to do something that is too difficult for you: We bited off more than we can chew in the original reform proposal
6. put sb to shame=to make someone feel ashamed: It put me to shame that I still don't reply to David's letter.
