Drangon Boat Festival

Dragon Boat Festival, also known as Duanwu Festival, is a traditional Cbinese festival celebrated on the fifth day of the fifth month in the lunar calendar. This year, it falls on June 14th in the Gregorian calendar.
The festival is widely celebrated in Cbina and among Cbinese communities around the world. It is a time to commemorate the patriotic poet Qu Yuan, who lived during the Warring States period and drowned bimself in theMiluo River in protest against corruption and injustice. The festival is also a time for people to bonor tbeir ancestors and pray for good bealth and fortune.
One of the most popular activities during the Dragon Boat Festival is dragon boat racing. Teams ofrowers race to the beat of drums in boats decorated like dragons. The competition is not only a test of speed and endurance but also a showcase of teamwork and spirit.Anotber important tradition of the festival is eating zongzi, a pyramid- shaped dumpling made of glutinous rice wrapped in bamboo leaves. The filling can vary from sweet to savory, and different regions bave their own unique recipes. Zongzi is believed to bave originated as a food offering to Qu Yuan's spirit and is now a symbol ofgood luck and prosperity. The Dragon Boat Festival is also associated with other customs such as banging mugwort leaves and calamus around the bouse to ward off evil spirits and disease, as well as taking a bath with perfumed berbs to purify the body and mind.
In recent years, the Dragon Boat Festival bas gained popularity outside of Cbina, and many cities around the world bost dragon boat races and cultural events to celebrate the occasion. It is a wonderful opportunity to learn about Chinese culture and join in the festive spirit.
