Unhelpful perfectionism

Perfectionism may prevent a person from taking on a challenge or attempting a task as the fear of failure is so strong.

It can make even the most menial tasks feel excruciating because of the level of detail involved in 'getting it right'.

Overcoming perfectionism isn't about lowering your standards, but is about addressing the over-dependence of your self-worth on striving and achievement.

 Perfectionistic standards

Did you know? Both perfectionistic standards and high standards are linked to better academic performance.

BUT only perfectionistic standards were associated with less helpful academic behaviours, such as procrastination, academic stress, academic burnout and test anxiety.

In other words, imagine your goal is to climb Mount Everest but your backpack is twice as heavy as the one carried by everyone else.

You have less chance of achieving your goal of getting to the top, but even if you get there, it's been much more difficult and unpleasant than everyone’s else’s journey, and all still achieving the same goal. 

This is how it is when you have perfectionistic standards – you don’t achieve more than people with high standards, but you damage yourself in the process. 

and the avoidance to failure feeling is so strong and attatched with you..
there is tons of feedback from after your performance, full of information,  but perfesionist is closed mindset and blind to this feedback.
