add up

add up的本义是指“把各个数字加起来，和总数进行比对”。也就是对各种事实进行汇总和分析，看是否与结果一致，是否合乎情理，合乎逻辑。
因此，add up就是指“言之有理，说得通；经得住推敲，能够自圆其说”的意思。
