Hardware security modules (HSM) provide means to protect the platform integrity, to ensure the integrity and confidentiality of key material and to enhance cryptographic operations, thereby protecting critical assets of the architecture.

 HSM 分三个层级：

最高级的是外部通讯接口的保护， 中间层级是车载ECU之间的通讯的保护，最低层级是车载传感器和执行器之间的保护

The full HSM for protecting external communication interfaces, the medium HSM for protecting the on-board communication between electronic control units (ECUs), and the light HSM for protecting the on-board communication with sensors and actuators.
