When I was about 12, a girl in my class liked to point out my problems. Week by week her list grew: I was too thin; I wasn't a good student; I talked too much; I was too proud and so on. At last,I became very angry and ran to my father with tears in my eyes.
在我大约12岁的时候，班里有个女孩总爱指出我的缺点。她罗列的清单每周都在增加：我太瘦了、成绩不好、话太多、太骄傲等等。终于有一天，我哭着跑去找父亲。

He listened to me quietly, and then he asked, “Are these things true or not? Janet, do you know what you are really like? Go and make a list of what she said and mark (标记) the true points. ”
父亲安静地听完后问我："这些是真的吗？珍妮特，你了解真实的自己吗？去把她说的话列出来，标出符合事实的部分。"

I did as he told me. To my great surprise, I found that about half of the things were true. I couldn't change some of them (like being very thin). But there were things I could and wanted to change. For the first time, I got a clear picture of myself.
我照做了。惊讶地发现约有一半的指责属实——有些我无法改变（比如瘦弱的体型），但有些是我能够且愿意改正的。这是我第一次清晰地认识自己。

I brought the list back to Dad, He refused to take it, “That's just for you." he said. “ You know the truth about yourself better than anyone else. When people say something that is true about you, you will find it helpful."

Our world is full of people who think they know your business . Don't close your ears in anger. Listen to them, but do what you believe to be the best you can be.
