From hunters to rangers

从猎人到护林员

 

In the 1980s, the Xinyi Village in Sichuan Province was known as a hunters’ village. 

20世纪80年代，四川省新义村曾是有名的"猎人村"。

Life was hard in this mountain village.The land on the hillside was difficult to farm. Many villagers had to hunt wild animals to make a living.They also cut down trees for sale and heating. 

这个山村生活艰苦，山坡上的土地难以耕种，许多村民不得不靠捕猎野生动物为生，他们还砍伐树木出售或当柴火。

As the villagers hunted further into the forest 2and cut down more trees , they were seeing less and less wildlife.

随着村民不断深入森林狩猎、砍伐更多树木，他们见到的野生动物越来越少。

 

In 1992, a flood hit the village and caused great loss to many families. It came as a wake-up call for the locals.

1992年，一场洪水袭击村庄，给许多家庭造成重大损失。这给当地人敲响了警钟。

The villagers realized that they had to change their old way of life. They started to raise bees and other animals to make money.And they now use electric heaters. They don‘t use firewood for heating. 

村民们意识到必须改变传统生活方式。他们开始通过养蜂和饲养家畜谋生，如今使用电暖器取暖，不再砍柴烧火。

The villagers have also formed a group of fourteen forest rangers. Twelve of them were hunters in the past.

村民们还组建了14人的护林队，其中12人曾是猎人。 

They have set up cameras in the forest to monitor the wild animals in order to protect them, The forest areas are being restored to their natural beauty.

他们在森林中安装摄像头监测野生动物以实施保护，森林区域正逐渐恢复自然生态。

 

“We shot wild animals with guns in the past, but now we only shoot them with cameras.” said one ranger. “We can only live well when we live in harmony with nature. "

"过去我们用猎枪射杀野生动物，如今我们只用相机'拍摄'它们，"一位护林员说，"只有与自然和谐共处，我们才能真正过上好日子。"
