Economy Revival?

Since last November, several friends and ex-colleagues approached me with the same question: do you have intention to switch company? We need people developing information but few are qualified.

 

For years technical writing in various industries appears to be some trivial and simple job, not only to engineer and managers, but to some writers themselves. Therefore the first thing a writer needs to do is to educate the engineers and managers about the role and value of technical writing. However, technical writer still becomes the first to go when recession comes down.

 

This situation has changed somehow in China now. Monthly salary of technical writer with 5 years or above experience exceed 10,000 RMB in Shanghai, partly due to inflation and partly the scarcity of qualified writers.

 

So maybe the technical writer requirement boom becomes a symbol of economy revival? Indeed this would be a good news for writers, however, self-education must also be put onto new year schedule since this is an area easy to enter but hard to advance.
