Validation Server Controls->ASP.NET RangeValidator Control

Definition and Usage

The RangeValidator control is used to check that the user enters an input  value that falls between two values. It is possible to check ranges within numbers, dates, and characters.

Note: The validation will not fail if the input control is empty. Use the RequiredFieldValidator control to make the field required.

Note: The validation will not fail if the input value cannot be converted to the data type specified. Use the CompareValidator control, with its Operator property set to ValidationCompareOperator.DataTypeCheck, to verify the data type of the input value.

Examples

RangeValidator
ASPX Source:

<html>
<body>

<form runat="server">
Enter a date between 2005-01-01 and 2005-12-31:
<br />
<asp:TextBox id="tbox1" runat="server" />
<br /><br />
<asp:Button Text="Submit" runat="server" />
<br /><br />
<asp:RangeValidator
ControlToValidate="tbox1"
MinimumValue="2005-01-01"
MaximumValue="2005-12-31"
Type="Date"
EnableClientScript="false"
Text="The date must be between 2005-01-01 and 2005-12-31!"
runat="server" />
</form>

</body>
</html>

Output Result:

Enter a date between 2005-01-01 and 2005-12-31:

If you enter a date "2005-30-29" and then click the button "Submit", it will show:

Enter a date between 2005-01-01 and 2005-12-31:

If you enter a date "2006-30-29" and then click the button "Submit", it will show:
Enter a date between 2005-01-01 and 2005-12-31:

The date must be between 2005-01-01 and 2005-12-31!

In this example we declare one TextBox control, one Button control, and one RangeValidator control in an .aspx file. If validation fails, the text "The date must be between 1/1/2002 and 31/5/2002!" will be displayed in the RangeValidator control.

RangeValidator 2
ASPX Source:

<script  runat="server">
Sub submit(sender As Object, e As EventArgs)
If Page.IsValid Then
   lbl1.Text="Page is valid."
Else
   lbl1.Text="Page is not valid!!"
End If
End Sub
</script>

<html>
<body>

<form runat="server">
Enter a number from 1 to 100:
<asp:TextBox id="tbox1" runat="server" />
<br /><br />
<asp:Button Text="Submit" OnClick="submit" runat="server" />
<br /><br />
<asp:Label id="lbl1" runat="server" />
<br />
<asp:RangeValidator
ControlToValidate="tbox1"
MinimumValue="1"
MaximumValue="100"
Type="Integer"
EnableClientScript="false"
Text="The value must be from 1 to 100!"
runat="server" />
</form>

</body>
</html>

Output Result:
Enter a number from 1 to 100:

If you enter a number "50" into the textbox ,it will show:
Enter a number from 1 to 100:

Page is valid.

If you enter a number "50" into the textbox ,it will show:
Enter a number from 1 to 100:

Page is not valid!!
The value must be from 1 to 100!

In this example we declare one TextBox control, one Button control, one Label control, and one RangeValidator control in an .aspx file. The submit() function checks if the page is valid. If it is valid, it returns "The page is valid!" in the Label control. If it is not valid, it returns "The page is not valid!" in the Label control. If validation fails, the text "The value must be from 1 to 100!" will be displayed in the RangeValidator control.
