Reflection Journal on Multimodality
In the last two workshops, I learned some new things about Digital Multimodality Composing. This not only broadened my horizons but also inspired new ideas on how to be a creative knowledge spreader.
One of the key insights I gained was a clearer understanding of Digital Multimodality Composing itself. It’s a creative approach that integrates various digital media forms. Among the skills I acquired, the most impressive one was the importance of showing rather than telling. By using specific descriptive words and language, we can create vivid characters. The last two workshops deepened my understanding of multimodality. I realized that “telling” and “showing” are examples of multimodal writing techniques. Besides these two easily - understood examples, the five main modes of Digital Multimodality Composing—linguistic, visual, aural, gestural, and spatial—also provided me with intuitive illustrations. Each of these five modes can effectively convey a story.
For me, what I learned in the last two workshops will help me become a better storyteller in real - life situations. Sometimes, when I want to tell a funny story or describe someone to my foreign friends, I struggled with making my stories vivid and engaging. Multimodality offers a new perspective. I can use body language and other elements to enrich my storytelling. As a student majoring in English education, mastering this knowledge is crucial for becoming a more effective knowledge communicator.
Regarding suggestions for future workshops, I think reducing the number of videos shown could have a better impact.
Overall, these workshops broadened my understanding of writing. Writing is diverse, not one - dimensional. Moreover, the knowledge I gained has made me more confident in both writing and storytelling.
