Some Challenges When Dealing With Transcription

Below you will get to learn about some of the challenges that people face when dealing with mixed audio transcription. A mixed audio is one that has 2 languages. This will focus more on audio recordings which incorporate two languages; for example, a recording in both Spanish and English. There are 3 types of mixed audio i.e.Random mix of the languages used, Simultaneous interpretation, Consecutive interpretation

Consecutive interpretation- this is where the languages that are used are spoken one after another. 2 transcribers can work on this. It is vital for the transcribers to listen to both parts of the audio as at times the language spoken usually changes very fast. This usually uses up a lot of time. A complication from both transcribers is also required. Speaker interruptions usually make the work more difficult.

Simultaneous interpretation- this is where both languages are spoken at the same time. This also requires 2 transcribers to work on the project. Compilation is however not required as the languages used are heard through the entire audio file thus can be put into separate documents. Most of the times different channels are used to listen to the transcribed work i.e. English on the left and Japanese on the left. One channel makes it difficult as it is only possible to listen to one language at a time. Effort as well as time used in the transcription process is usually a lot as both languages are used when transcribing. It is therefore important to note that clients are usually charged a premium rate for this as compared to transcription that uses one language.

Random mix of the languages- this usually means that no patterns have been used as the languages was being used in the transcription process. Transcribers have to go through it very carefully to determine the places the languages have been used. From here the work can be given to 2 transcribers. It is best for the compilation to be done by someone who is familiar with both languages.

From the above scenarios it is obvious that this normally takes up twice or more time when it comes to transcription of works that has 2 languages in comparison to where only one has been used. There are times when the projects have to be worked on by more than one person for a person to get accurate results in the long run. Compilation from both transcribers also needs to be done when they are done.
