(Cultural Notes)

Go past the pub with the green sign, then turn right at the church.
At the roundabout, take the third exit(在环岛,走第三个出口)。
  • "You can't miss it":这句是英国指路经典结尾,意思是"那个地方非常明显,你肯定能找到"。

(Dialogue)

B: Excuse me, sorry to bother you — do you know where the British Museum is?
Stranger: Yes! Go straight down this road, then turn left at the traffic lights. It's about a 10-minute walk. You'll see it on your right — big building with columns.
B: Turn left at the traffic lights. Got it. Is there a tube station nearby?
Stranger: The nearest one is Tottenham Court Road — about five minutes from here. But honestly, it's quicker to walk.
B: Brilliant, thanks very much.
Stranger: No problem. It's a lovely day for a walk!

B: Excuse me, could you tell me how to get to the train station?
Local: The station? Right, go up the High Street, past the baker's on your left, then take a right at the roundabout — second exit. You'll see the station on your left, just after the bridge.
B: Sorry, past the baker's and then right at the roundabout?
Local: That's right. Second exit. You can't really miss it — there's a big sign.
B: Is it walkable from here, or should I get a taxi?
Local: Oh, it's about 15 minutes on foot. Nice walk, actually. Goes along the river.
B: Sounds lovely. Thanks for your help.
Local: No worries at all. Mind the puddles — it's been raining!

A: I think we're going the wrong way. The map says the restaurant should be on this street but I don't see it.
B: Let me check Google Maps… Oh, I think we went past it. The entrance is actually round the back, not on the main road.
A: Typical! Why would they put the entrance round the back?
B: Let's go back. It should be just up here on the left.
A: (looking) Wait, is that it? The one with the blue door?
B: That's the one! See, I told you we'd find it.
A: Eventually! Note to self: always check the photos on the map before leaving.
B: Ha, fair point. Let's go in — I'm starving.
