A Story of Project Management

My friend, Lao ma, who is a great project consultant, told me a small story that happened to him when undertaking a telecom project.

 At that time Lao ma had a team of contractors under him and they were together working for the client. Whereby the client scolded the contractors directly, and the team was feeling very low.  Of course, productivity was going low too. So Lao ma had to talk to them, saying that just look from the clients’ perspective first.

"Why did he scold you? I am sure because of lack from our side. He must be at loss. I am hurt as well and feel equally bad. However now lets get over it and let client not give an another opportunity to scold us. Leave the past. Let’s get our hands together and put it more efforts to show value to him both qualitatively and within time. I am sure he would praise later. So lets all get working without worrying about the results. And i am there for you always. I will work with you. Let me know anytime you feel you are stuck at any point.I will try my best to help you in all possible manners…"

Lao ma took them out for a dinner so that the team can speak freely.  Environment makes a difference. At last, the team did well and they had more confidence in me than earlier. And they all sought guidance from him. The team of contactors became friends of the client.

 That is true. Just like Lao ma suggested:

Look from the clients’ perspective first.
You always need to make your team feel that you were hurt as well and you are a part of the team.
