china clay (=kaolin) is a fine clay used in ceramics and refractories [陶瓷和耐火材料], as a filler or coating for paper and textiles, as an additive in food and toothpaste, and as an antidiarrheal [止泻] drug. kaolin是高岭的音译。高岭土是一种非金属矿产，因江西省景德镇高岭村而得名。因呈白色而又细腻，又称白云土。
