cap
A cap is a form of headgear. Caps have crowns that fit very close to the head. They made their first appearance as early as 3,200BC. Caps typically have a visor [帽舌], or no brim at all. They are popular in casual and informal settings, and are seen in sports and fashion. They are typically designed for warmth, and often incorporate a visor to block sunlight from the eyes. They come in many shapes, sizes, and are of different brands. Baseball caps are one of the most common types of cap.
The bearskin caps for British foot guards are coloured black, with most caps made from the fur of a Canadian black bear.
A cap and bells is a type of fool's cap, a cap with bells worn by a court fool or jester.
The Canterbury cap is a square cloth hat with sharp corners found in the Anglican [英国圣公会] Communion [教派; 圣餐].
A flat cap (sometimes scally cap) is a rounded cap with a small stiff brim in front, originating in Ireland. The hat is known in Ireland as a paddy cap, in Scotland as a bunnet, in Wales as a Dai cap, in New Zealand as a cheese-cutter, and in the United States as a driving cap. Cloths used to make the cap include wool, tweed [花呢] (most common), and cotton. Less common materials may include leather, linen, or corduroy [灯芯绒]. The inside of the cap is commonly lined for comfort and warmth.
A nightcap is a cloth cap worn with other nightwear such as pajamas, a onesie, a nightshirt or a nightgown. They are somewhat similar to winter beanies worn in cold climates of Northern Europe.
Nightcaps are less commonly worn in modern times, but are often featured in animation and other media, as part of a character's nightwear. Occasionally worn in the 20th and 21st centuries as well, it has become associated with the fictional sleeper Ebenezer Scrooge. Because of the hat's popular association with Ebenezer Scrooge's bedtime wardrobe, it has become typical nightwear for a sleeper especially in comical drawings or cartoons along with children's stories, plays, and films.
