affection, affect

affection的意思单一: feeling of fondness, love or caring. 如果考试考了"疾病, 病情"的词义: 1. 牛津标的是(dated 旧); 2. 朗文和柯林斯根本没这个词义。

affect的词源是influence, cause sb/sth to change. 疾病的侵袭infect, afflict是一种influence; make sb feel strong emotions也是。"pretend"这个词义朗文和牛津有，柯林斯没有。想来pretend的目的是influence，比如昨天新闻那女的pretend是为了influence人们，想让人们觉得她有路子，目的是卖卡，结局是进班房。

affect的意思so多that affectation也是它的名词: 做作, a way of behaving, speaking etc that is not sincere or natural. affectation本身就比affection发音做作。

affected: not sincere or natural, mannered
affecting: makeing sb feel a strong emotion (esp sadness or pity), upsetting
affectionate: showing fondness or love

effect也可以作动词: bring sth about; cause sth to occur.
