A romantic affair, also called an affair of the heart, may refer to sexual liaisons [交流] among unwed or wedded [未婚或已婚] parties, or to various forms of nonmonogamy [非一夫一妻制]. Unlike a casual relationship, which is a physical and emotional relationship between two people who may have sex without expecting a more formal romantic relationship, an affair is by its nature romantic.
Extramarital affairs are relationships outside of marriage where an illicit romantic or sexual relationship or a romantic friendship or passionate attachment occurs. An extramarital sexual relationship is one that a married person has with a person who is not their husband or wife.
