When you install the MSN Message ver 8.0 or above, a new folder icon 'My Sharing Folders' will be added to My Computer mandatorily. It is not useful for common use and will make your PC start up more slowly.

There are two ways to remove the icon:

First:

This is a temporary method.
Sometimes MSN Massage will register the dll file when starting up your PC. And the icon will be appeared again.

If you have some sort of beta version, type this in your start > run:

regsvr32 -"C:\Program Files\MSN Messenger\fsshext.dll"

If you changed the MSN installationfolder, type that instead of the path.

Microsoft released their official version of Live Messenger, and Manuel found out that the filename has changed, Wearingseven discovered that the filename changes with every version… Use this command for the official version:

regsvr32 -"C:\Program Files\MSN Messenger\fsshext.8.0.0xxx.00.dll"

where “xxx” is your version. (found in help > about Live Messenger)

Second:

If you want to delete the icon completely, you should delete a data in the registry.

Type regedit in start > run

Find this folder and delete it

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\MyComputer\NameSpace\
