Code named Natty Narwhal,代号为整洁的独角鲸 the Ubuntu 11.04 Linux distribution supported by Canonical is expected to have its final version released on the 28th of April. 正式发布日期为4.28With this date now approaching, a first beta release has been made available for testing. This will be followed by a second beta in mid-April, with no Release Candidate expected.四月中旬会有第二测试版，不会有预览版

Canonical recently indicated that there would be no more Ubuntu Netbook Edition. Ubuntu 11.04 now combines the Ubuntu Desktop and Ubuntu Netbook releases with the Unity desktop interface. 新版本将整合桌面版和上网本版，称为Ubuntu，原来的Server版本称为Ubuntu Server，统一使用Unity界面This will be selected as the default option on the condition that the computers graphics card is capable of handling 3D effects. Otherwise, users will find themselves in front of the more traditional GNOME interface.但取决于用户显卡对3D特效的支持能力，否则还是传统的GNOME界面。

It should be noted that version 2.32 of GNOME is still behind the desktop environment, it’s just the interface that changes. It is also possible to swap back to the classic interface if you wish. GNOME 仍然存在于桌面环境中，只是接口改变了。

While we will no longer be speaking about Ubuntu Netbook Edition, a version of Ubuntu Netbook ARM is nevertheless available, and as its name indicates, it is aimed at ARM architecture systems. It also comes with the Unity 2D interface by default while using Qt to operate the 2D graphics drivers. 虽然没有了上网本版本，但是还有支持ARM结构的版本，同样使用 Unity 2D 界面，使用Qt来处理2D图形接口。

Ubuntu 11.04 beta 1 is based on the Linux 2.6.38 core (2.6.38-7.39). The vesafb module has been reactivated to prevent the GPU from being blocked and corrupting the start-up screen. Ubuntu also integrates multitouch多点触控support, making it possible to install a diverse range of software library packages. Ubuntuleapfrogs（跳过） several Linux kernels since October's Linux 2.6.35-driven Ubuntu 10.10 ("Maverick Meerkat"), moving up to the latest Linux kernel 2.6.38. This brings Ubuntu new features including AppArmor（应用装甲） security, support for Intel IPS (Intelligent Power Sharing), removal of the Big Kernel Lock, andfile system improvements to Btrfs, Ext4, and XFS, says the project.

For this beta, Unity has been announced with numerous improvements including drag and drop to reorganise（改组, 改革, 整顿, 整编, 改编） the applications icons, the right click contextual menu to see a list of running applications so that you can swap between them, and complete keyboard navigation. 

In another move causing controversies among some Ubuntu loyalists, Natty Narwhal isintroducing Qt libraries as an alternative development environment to Gtk+. As with the switch to Unity, this further extricates Ubuntu from its traditional embrace of all things GNOME.另一个存在争议的地方是Qt作为Gtk+的一个可替代的开发环境，这也说明了Ubuntu正在慢慢挣脱传统的GNOME的怀抱。
