1 Adjectives 形容词

1.1 Position of adjectives in a sentence 形容词在句中的位置


Most adjectives go in two main places in a sentence: before a noun or after linking verbs like be, look, feel, seem etc.

大多数形容词在句中的位置主要有两种:名词之前,或连系动词(如be、look、feel、seem等)之后。

When you use an adjective before a noun, the adjective is in the attributive position.

形容词置于名词之前时,用作定语。

We had a delicious meal.

我们吃了美味的一餐。

She gave a wonderful speech.

她做了一场精彩的演讲。

When you use an adjective after the verb be or a linking verb(e.g. look, feel, taste, seem), the adjective is in the predicative position.

形容词置于动词be或连系动词(如look、feel、taste、seem)之后时,用作表语。

Her speech was wonderful.

她的演讲非常精彩。

The meal tasted delicious.

这餐饭很美味。

Some adjectives are only attributive - you can only use them before nouns.

有些形容词仅能作定语,即仅只能置于名词之前。

her late husband

她的前夫

an atomic bomb

原子弹

the entire evening

整个晚上

an indoor swimming pool

室内游泳池

Some adjectives are only predivative - you can only use them after verbs.

有些形容词仅能作表语,即仅能置于动词之后。

The baby is asleep.

宝宝睡着了。

I'm afraid.

我感到害怕。

He felt very ashamed.

他觉得非常羞愧。
