A story on revenge
Lila’s hands shook as she held the old photo. Her sister’s smile, bright and warm, stared back at her from the frame. Five years ago, a fire had taken Emma’s life. The police said it was an accident, but Lila knew the truth: Jake, Emma’s boyfriend, had started it. He’d left her to die for insurance money.
Lila moved back to their small town. She got a job at the diner where Jake often ate. Every day, she watched him laugh with friends, never sorry for what he’d done. Her heart burned with anger, but she stayed calm. Revenge, she decided, needed patience.
Firstly, Lila talked to Emma’s old friends. She collected stories, photos, and emails that showed how much Jake had lied. Then, she made copies and left them in places where Jake’s family and friends would find them. His wife cried when she saw the proof. His kids stopped speaking to him.
But Lila wanted more. One night, she went to Jake’s old garage—the place where the fire had started. She took out a can of paint and wrote on the wall: "Emma remembers." The next day, everyone in town talked about it. Jake looked scared, but no one knew who had done it.
Months later, Lila went to the police. She gave them all the evidence she had collected. At first, they didn’t believe her, but the proof was strong. Jake was arrested. In court, he tried to lie, but Lila stood up and told the truth about her sister’s last moments.
As Jake was taken away, Lila looked at the sky. The anger in her heart felt a little lighter. She knew Emma couldn’t come back, but justice had been done. Revenge, she realized, wasn’t about hate—it was about remembering the one you loved.
