Reflective journal of my digital story
The creation process unfolded in several key stages. Initially, brainstorming involved analyzing the classic tale and extracting its core themes to adapt for a digital format. Then, I collaborated with team members to write the script, dividing tasks based on our strengths: one focused on character dialogue, another on plot structure, and I handled the overall narrative flow. Gathering media was challenging as we aimed to match visuals with the story’s tone; we overcame this by using stock photo websites and creating custom illustrations with Canva. For editing, we employed Adobe Premiere Pro, which was initially daunting due to its complex features. However, through online tutorials and trial - and - error, we managed to piece together the story. I also used ChatGPT to refine the script, asking for suggestions on sentence structure and word choice.
At the start, I felt a mix of excitement and anxiety. Excitement stemmed from the opportunity to blend traditional writing with digital media, while anxiety came from the fear of failing to execute the project well. A turning point occurred during the editing phase when we struggled to synchronize audio and visuals. After hours of work, when everything finally aligned, a wave of pride washed over me. Compared to traditional writing assignments, digital storytelling offers a more immersive experience, allowing me to see my words come to life visually. I was most surprised by my enjoyment of visualizing scenes, as it added a new dimension to the writing process that I hadn’t anticipated.
This project significantly improved my multimodal literacy skills, as I learned to balance text, images, and audio. My technical skills in video editing and using design tools like Canva also grew. Regarding AI literacy, I became more proficient in using ChatGPT to enhance my writing. In future writing, I’ll apply the lesson of considering multiple forms of media to enhance storytelling, and I’ll use AI more strategically to refine my work.
At the beginning, my confidence was low, influenced by past experiences of struggling with traditional writing assignments and a lack of technical skills. However, when I successfully designed an animation sequence that perfectly captured the emperor’s arrogance, I felt a great sense of achievement. Another proud moment was when we received positive feedback on the story’s pacing, which we had worked hard to perfect. These moments boosted my self - belief, making me more confident in my ability to undertake complex writing and digital storytelling projects in the future.
