Reflection on Creating Digital Stories: A Journey of Creativity and Growth

Creating a digital story is a multifaceted process that involves several stages, each with its own set of challenges. For my last two individual digital stories, the process began with brainstorming. I spent a considerable amount of time thinking about the themes, characters, and narratives I wanted to explore. This stage was both exciting and daunting, as I had to sift through numerous ideas to find the ones that resonated most with me. Once I had a clear vision, I moved on to scripting. Writing the script required careful attention to detail, ensuring that the dialogue was engaging and the plot was coherent. Gathering media, such as images and audio, was another crucial step. I was supposed to search for high-quality, royalty-free resources that matched the tone and style of my story. Throughout this process, I faced several challenges. One of the biggest was ensuring that the story flowed naturally and that the visual and auditory elements complemented the narrative. I also had to deal with technical issues, such as software glitches and compatibility problems. However, I overcame these challenges through perseverance and by seeking help from online forums and tutorials.

To aid in the creation of my digital stories, I used a variety of AI tools,especially DeepSeek. It helps me catch errors that I might have otherwise missed, ensuring that my script was polished and professional. For generating pictures, I used Doubao. I provided it with detailed descriptions of the scenes I wanted to depict, and it produced stunning visuals that brought my story to life. These tools definitely enhanced the quality of my work.

At the start of the project, I felt a mix of excitement and anxiety. The excitement came from the opportunity to create something unique and share my ideas with others. However, the anxiety stemmed from the fear of not being able to meet my own expectations and the pressure to produce a high-quality piece. Despite these initial emotions, I did enjoy the process overall. There was something incredibly satisfying about seeing my ideas take shape and come to life through the digital medium.

There were several moments where my emotions shifted. One of the most frustrating times was during the editing stage when I encountered technical difficulties. I felt overwhelmed and unsure of how to proceed. However, this frustration turned into pride when I finally managed to overcome these obstacles and saw the final product. Another turning point was when I received positive feedback from my friends, which boosted my confidence and made me realize that all the hard work was worth it. As for my preference, I enjoy both collaborative and individual digital story projects. Collaborative projects offer the benefit of diverse perspectives and shared creativity, while individual projects allow me to fully express my own vision without compromise. Each has its own unique rewards and challenges.

Through the creation of these digital stories, I improved several specific writing and technical skills. My multimodal literacy skills get enhanced as I learned how to effectively combine text, images, and audio to create a cohesive narrative. I also enhanced my editing skills, becoming more adept at identifying areas for improvement and making necessary changes.

In summary, this workshop has been an incredibly valuable experience. I have gained a deeper understanding of the digital storytelling process, from brainstorming and scripting to gathering media and editing. I have also developed my skills in multimodal literacy, editing, and AI literacy. The challenges I faced and overcame have taught me the importance of perseverance and problem-solving. Moving forward, I plan to continue exploring digital storytelling and incorporating the lessons I've learned into my future work.

As for suggestions for the workshop, I would recommend incorporating more hands-on activities and opportunities for peer collaboration. This would allow participants to learn from each other and gain additional insights. Overall, this workshop has been a fantastic learning experience, and I am grateful for the opportunity to have participated.
