May Day arrived with (golden sunshine) dappled sunlight and a (gentle breeze) lilting wind, offering the perfect setting for a family barbecue.Eager to embrace the holiday spirit, my parents, younger brother, and I (decided to host) planned a small outdoor feast at a nearby lakeside park.
Early that morning, we packed our car with a portable grill, (marinated meats) honey-glazed ribs and soy-soaked chicken wings, fresh vegetables, and skewers. Upon arrival, Dad took charge of lighting the charcoal (while Mom arranged) , his brows furrowed in concentration, while Mom meticulously arranged the picnic blanket and prepared a (crisp garden salad) salad flecked with edible pansies from our backyard. My brother and I threaded (colorful bell peppers) vibrant red and yellow bell peppers, mushrooms, and (chunks of chicken) tender chicken onto skewers, laughing as we competed to create the "most artistic" kebabs (,) — he stacked ingredients like rainbow layers, while I attempted zigzag patterns. Soon, the aroma of sizzling meat (mingled with the scent of blooming wildflowers) waltzed with the sweetness of blooming jasmine, creating an irresistible invitation to indulge.
As we ate, stories and jokes flowed freely. Dad shared (tales of his childhood barbecues) misadventures of charcoal-smudged cheeks and runaway hotdogs, while Mom teased him about his "legendary" habit of (burning sausages) transforming sausages into charcoal sticks. Even our usually quiet brother (imitated Dad’s exaggerated grilling gestures) pantomimed Dad’s "flame-taming" dance with a spatula, sparking a burst of laughter. Between bites, we (tossed a frisbee) chased a neon-green frisbe, snapped (photos) candid shots of sauce-smeared smiles, and fed (breadcrumbs) crusty baguette scraps to curious ducks paddling nearby.
As the sun dipped below the horizon, painting the sky in hues of amber and lavender, I felt a deep sense of gratitude. The day wasn’t just about food—it was a celebration of togetherness, simplicity, and the joy found in shared moments. Our May Day journey became a cherished memory, reminding me that happiness often lies in the warmth of family and the beauty of nature’s embrace.
