My May Day Journey
May Day arrived with golden sunshine and a gentle breeze, offering the perfect setting for a family barbecue. Eager to embrace the holiday spirit, my parents, younger brother, and I decided to host a small outdoor feast at a nearby lakeside park.
Early that morning, we packed our car with a portable grill, marinated meats, fresh vegetables, and skewers. Upon arrival, Dad took charge of lighting the charcoal, while Mom arranged the picnic blanket and prepared a crisp garden salad. My brother and I threaded colorful bell peppers, mushrooms, and chunks of chicken onto skewers, laughing as we competed to create the "most artistic" kebabs. Soon, the aroma of sizzling meat mingled with the scent of blooming wildflowers, creating an irresistible invitation to indulge.
As we ate, stories and jokes flowed freely. Dad shared tales of his childhood barbecues, while Mom teased him about his "legendary" habit of burning sausages. Even our usually quiet brother imitated Dad’s exaggerated grilling gestures, sparking a burst of laughter. Between bites, we tossed a frisbee, snapped photos, and fed breadcrumbs to curious ducks paddling nearby.
As the sun dipped below the horizon, painting the sky in hues of amber and lavender, I felt a deep sense of gratitude. The day wasn’t just about food—it was a celebration of togetherness, simplicity, and the joy found in shared moments. Our May Day journey became a cherished memory, reminding me that happiness often lies in the warmth of family and the beauty of nature’s embrace.
