A Spicy and Sizzling May Day at Tianhong

As a freshman at Jiangxi Normal University, this May Day, I couldn't make it home due to some reasons. Little did I know that staying on campus would lead to an unforgettable and spicy adventure.

My roommate, xiao bu, and I, tired of the mundane campus food, decided to treat ourselves at Jijihong in Tianhong Mall. The moment we entered the restaurant, the air was thick with the enticing aroma of simmering broths and spices. The place was bustling with people enjoying their holidays, and the lively chatter added to the festive atmosphere.

We perused the menu, our eyes quickly landing on the special spicy hot - pot. Despite our usual preference for milder flavors, the vibrant description and the allure of trying something new got the better of us. We eagerly placed our order, anticipation building.

When the hot - pot arrived, a large, steaming cauldron filled with a vivid red broth, our mouths watered. We wasted no time in dropping various ingredients into the boiling liquid. However, our eagerness got the best of us. I scooped up a piece of meat, not realizing just how hot it was. The moment it touched my tongue, I yelped in pain. It was not only scaldingly hot but also incredibly spicy. My eyes watered instantly, and I started to cough.

My roommate, in an attempt to be helpful, handed me a glass of water, but in my haste, I accidentally spilled some on the table. Meanwhile, she too had a taste of the broth and her face immediately contorted in a mix of surprise and pain. The spiciness was overwhelming, a fiery explosion in our mouths that we hadn't anticipated.

We spent the next few minutes fanning our mouths, gulping down water, and laughing at our own clumsiness. Despite the pain from the burns and the spiciness, we couldn't help but find the situation hilarious. It was a classic case of being too eager to enjoy the deliciousness and forgetting basic caution.

As we slowly recovered and continued our meal with more care, I realized that this simple outing had made my May Day special. It was a reminder that even when away from home, small adventures with friends could create lasting memories. These five days on campus, especially this spicy encounter, became a unique part of my freshman year experience, a story I'd surely share with a smile in the days to come.
