1,How to introduce yourself

Introducing yourself include these important informations

  • Say your name
  • Say your job title
  • Describe your responsibilities

Say your name

  • My name is...(more formal)
  • Hi,I'm ... (more informal)

Say your Position title:

  • I'm the secretary.(=the only secretary)
  • I'm a project manager.(=one of many project mangers)
  • I'm in the engineering department.
  • I work in the marketing department.

Describe your responsibilities

  • I manage each project from start to finish.
  • I'm responsible for web analytics and tesing.
  • I handle purchasing and our negotiations 谈判with suppliers.

My name is Alice and I'm the marketing manager here.I handle online advertising and web analytics.

Hi,I'm Alice . I'm in. the sales department. I manager our sales team.

2,开始会议

  • Let's get started
  • We need to discuss...
  • We need to talk about...
  • The first thing we need to discuss is ...
  • The first item on the agenda is...

3,Need to discussing solutions for problems

  • We have several alternatives:
  • We have two options:
  • We could either ___ or ___.

4,move on the meeting

If you are leading the meeting,somethings you need to move the meeting forward. Because if you let people just talk and talk and talk, you may not get through everything that on you agenda. So to move people forward ,you can say:

  • Let's move on to item 2.
  • Let's move on to the next topic.
  • we need to move on.
  • The next item (of business) is ...
  • Shall/Should we move on?

5,Asking questions

If someone is moving the topic onto next item,and you still something to say, you can interrupt by say:

  • Before we move on, I think we should...
  • Not so fast. We haven't (yet)...

If you are not clear about what somebody is saying, you can say:

  • What do you mean by ___?
  • I have a question.Why is ...?
  • Does this mean?
  • How...?
  • I don't quite follow you.
  • I didn't get what you meant by...
  • I didn't understand...
  • Could you clarify that?
  • Could/can you elaborate(详细说明) on that?

elaborate means could you give more details information about what you are talking about.

Execuse me,how will the new requirements affect the project deadline?

Sorry to interrupt, but i have a question.Does this mean that the new IT systems won't be in place this year?

Sorry,can you clarify the third step in your proposal? I didn't get the main idea.

6,Making suggestions

Giving your suggestions and your opinions on things ,you should say:

  • I think we should ...(I think we should make this a priority for this month)
  • I suggest...
  • Why don't we ...
  • How about...
  • We ought to give new clients a gift from the company.
  • We might want to consider looking for another engineer to help with this.
  • We have to improve the way we collect and record sales data.
  • We need to find a cheaper solution--our budget is very tight.

通过否定词表达建议

  • We shouldn't rush this--we need to think it through carefully.
  • We don't need to hire new staff at the moment.

7,Agreeing with suggestions

When you agree with what sb else say:

  • (I think) that's a good idea.
  • You have a good point.
  • I agree.
  • I agree with...
  • That sounds good.
  • Let's go with this idea.

8,Disagreeing with suggestions

You don't agree,you can say:

  • I disagree. I think ...
  • To be honest,I'm not sure about this idea.
  • Good suggestion,but I can see a few problems...
  • I see your point,however...
  • You have a good point ,but ...
  • That's not such a good idea.
  • I don't think that's a good idea.
  • That's just plain stupid! [愚蠢至极The idea is compelety out of head]

I see your point ,however ,I don't think advertising in a magazine is good idea. People don't read them as often these days.

To be honest, I'm not sure about this idea. I think improving our website UI is a higher priority right now.

9,Ask Other people's opinions

When you want ask opinions of your colleagues sit around the table ,you can ask:

  • What do you think,Alice?
  • What's your opinion on that,Alice?
  • Any thoughts on that?
  • Any ideas?
  • Do we all agree (on that)?
  • Does everyone agree?

10,Marking promises and Offers

  • I'll call the client tomorrow
  • I'll discuss this with the rest of my team and get back to you by the end of the week.
  • I'm going to get a team together for this project.
  • I'm planning to do one more round of testing, and then we can go live.
  • I can contact the supplier next week if we need to.
  • I could put together a report if you think it would help.
  • Shall I talk to our engineering team and get a cost estimate?

11,Refusing politely

  • I'm afraid I can't...
  • I'm sorry,but I don't think I can...
  • Unfortunately,I won't be able to ...

Unfortunately,we won't be able to complete the project any sooner because we don't have the supplies yet.

I'm sorry,but I don't think we can finish by the end of this month. We need at least another six weeks.

12,Conclude

At the end of the meeting ,you need to conclude ,so in the conclusion you  include everything that you talked about.

  • In summary,...
  • The conclusion is ...
  • So,we've decided to ...
  • We're going to ...(when)
  • That's all for tody.
  • The meeting is adjourned.
