There are many cultural (文化的) differences between China and other countries, One of them is , of course, the food. Having spent 15 years eating across China, Fuchsia Dunlop writes about how she slowly grew to love the strange and wonderful food found across the country in her book Shark's Fin and Sichuan Pepper.

Dunlop recalls how she became the first foreigner to study at the Sichuan Higher Institute of Cuisine(四川烹饪高等专科学校).In a class of nearly fifty young Chinese,she was the only female student, When she arrived there for the first time, she expected the usual Western meat, fruit and vegetables. But she was greeted with pig brains, duck intestines (肠) and duck tongues. She also had to get used to eating insects, snakes , and chicken feet.

While shocking in the West, these foods are well-loved in China.

However, Dunlop decided to expand(扩展) her taste buds( 味蕾). Dunlop writes about her travels across the country over 15 years and shares her opinions of each place's speciality dishes Slowly, she learns to see different kinds of strange foods through the eyes of a local person.

In the book, Dunlop writes, “ I have to say that , inside me , there is someone who is no longer entirely(完全地)English.”

In the book, Dunlop writes, “ I have to say that , inside me , there is someone who is no longer entirely(完全地)English.”
