Reflective Journal

Through the first two workshops, I have learned much about multimodality. With the development of technology and the promotion of all kinds of network platforms, traditional writing styles have changed greatly, evolving towards digital multimodal composing. More and more people make use of social media such as Wechat, Twitter, Microblog，Facebook to communicate with others. Multimodality is characterized by multiple semiotic choices, combining texts, pictures, and sound. They endow the traditional writing with new meanings and frame characters from multiple angles as well as enhancing people's understanding of characters .
In terms of usefulness, it will play a crucial role in my writing. I will apply it to my daily life whenever I watch a video and apply it to my writing by integrating and innovating.
As for future workshops, I hope more application scenarios of multimodality can be introduced in our class.
About my personal reaction to the workshops, to be honest, I have broken my stereotype of traditional writing. I never imagine that we can frame characters in multiple dimensions by taking advantage of the semiotic choices. We can portray characters not only from a visual perspective, but also from a audio perspective. Besides, color, gaze, point of view and methods of shooting can be made good use of to frame characters.
