What are “bound” and "unbound” applications?
Bound applications are associated with (and technically embedded within) the video programming they appear over, whether that is a broadcast linear channel, or a Video On Demand stream. These applications launch when the user tunes into the programming, and go away when the user changes the channel. The content of bound applications can be synchronized with the video content (e.g. vote on a reality show). Bound applications are sometimes referred to as "content-based applications".
Unbound applications are not associated with any particular video and can be invoked at any time. Some unbound applications are launched at the subscriber’s discretion while others appear automatically at appropriate times. Unbound applications are sometimes referred to as "widgets" or "guide extensions".
