InfoPath 2007 gives developers the ability to design forms that can be filled out using a Web browser. The process begins with a designer (bottom) using the InfoPath client to design a form by choosing the Forms Services option from InfoPath's compatibility settings. Once completed, the developer uploads the form to a server running the new Forms Services. The user can then access the site with a browser.

When the form is completed, it is sent back to Forms Services, which then processes the form using the rules defined by the developer. Data from the form can be stored in a variety of back-end systems, including databases such as SQL Server, or enterprise resource planning and other business applications that expose their functions via Web services.

Forms Services relies on the Windows SharePoint Services version 3 Web development platform, which in turn runs on ASP.NET 2.0. Forms Services will be available in two products: a stand-alone Forms Server product or SharePoint Server 2007.
