The Influencer In My Life
The person who left a deep impression on me is my primary school Chinese teacher. She has long black hair and wears glasses. I remember calling her “eater” when she told us her surname was “Fan.” She then smiled at me gently when I was worried that she might be angry.
When I was a kid, I liked playing and did not want to go to school or study. But she always encouraged me and taught me carefully. One day, during the teachers’ award ceremony for students who got good grades, she asked me if I was keen to get a prize, too. I just smiled and didn’t say any words. I now know she wanted to push me forward. And when I got the third prize in Chinese in the final exam, she looked so happy. She chose a composition book, wrote my name on it, and gave it to me herself. It was an interesting book. It broadened my horizons. Some stories in it seemed a little sad; they touched my heart. As a kid, I mostly read fairy tales. One essay told the story of a little girl whose family was too poor to support her going to school. She often listened to classes outside the classroom. But she died eventually. I don’t remember why she died. But I remember my heart was broken when I read this story. Meanwhile, I felt fortunate about my current life. Another story is about a little boy who went swimming in a river without telling his family. To scare his grandfather, he left his clothes on the riverbank and pretended to drown when his grandfather called his name. The boy, who couldn’t swim, jumped into the river to save him, but the boy secretly ran ashore. By the time the boy realized something was wrong, his grandfather had passed away, leaving the boy to live with deep guilt for the rest of his life.
I like the teacher. She impressed me and made me become a better person. I will remember and appreciate her forever. Without her, I would not become the person I am now.
