By reading at my sister's essay from Ye Boxian, it really touched my heart, recalling my memories during the student life in US.
" At age 14, I came to America with only two luggages. I left my school, my friends, my life, my language; and more importantly, I left my family to the other side of the Pacific Ocean. Similar to everyone would experience in a new culture, I was living in a culture shock. Since then, everyday I was facing different challenges and dealing with all kinds of circumstances that I had never encountered before. Under the extremely difficult situation and tremendous stress with nobody to depend on, I caught Bulimia. I had been throwing up nearly every meal for almost 2 years. I was too embarrassed to talk to people about the illness, finally, one day I passed out. The doctor told me that if I do not stop puking I could die chronically. Because I had been throwing up for so long, mentally, it was tremendously hard for me to stop thinking to throw up after a meal. Once again, I was challenged, not only the disease but also to conquer myself. Now I do not have Bulimia anymore. My life is still fulfilled with challenges and hardships. However, through the illness, I learned that the only way to solve them is to face and fight."
My sister came to US when she was 14 years old, and she is still wearing visions' corrective glasses, it really looks like bottle of the Budweiser. Her heights is about 5.2”, wearing a navy blue dress with printed red floweret which is Grandma Chen made for her. If I did not remember wrong, by the time she arrives US, it is her summer break, she is concerned about her Chinese homework. At that time, I was planned to take her to Disneyland, but because of mom’s planning and my summer school, the schedule was canceled somehow. Thanks God we both go to Disneyland after 2 years. During her stay in Omaha, we had experienced a harsh time in our life. I had to go to school, and work 30 hours a week, Still I have to take her to school and take some responsibilities as her guardians. I have to admit, I did not give her much concerns and cares.
