Country-specific Hotmail domains coming
Microsoft is excited to expand the MSN Hotmail account possibilities and
introduce country-specific domain names for the U.K., Germany, France,
Italy and Japan.
A country domain is really just a country specific address. For instance
, if you live in the U.K., instead of getting an e-mail address @hotmail
.com, you'll be able to get one @hotmail.co.uk.
Let's face it, with 187 million customers around the world using Hotmail
, getting the exact e-mail address you want isn't always easy. The new d
omains will allow for Hotmail customers in these five markets to more ea
sily find desirable e-mail names within their country. Free accounts in
the new domains will continue to receive all the benefits of the classic
Hotmail service, including free anti-virus scanning and cleaning featur
es, life management tools, rich e-mail capabilities and storage.

两日前有幸得到一个wallop邀请，迫不及待的去注册、登录。。。
的确是非常有意思的软件，将现实社会中人与人之间的关系用网络充分地体现出来。
wallop带给人的视觉冲击很大，全部使用Flash，动态效果十足，当然也很耗资源（访问半小时以后占用内存100M以上，Cpu 40%以上）。Microsoft研究社会性软件已有4年之久，到现在依然在实验阶段，目前wallop的用户数大约5000多。wallop中用到了很多Microsoft社会性软件方面的研究成果，Microsoft储备了不少这方面的人才（MS总是拥有某领域最好的人才，在软件心理学方面就储备了全球最优秀的专家，据说Media Player 10的开发时间中有一半用来供这些心理学专家来测试用户的体验），在Wallop中我发现有一个人非常重要，她叫Lili,她的社交网络是最大的，后来看其个人信息和MS网站，果然她是Primary Contact，她的全名叫Lili Cheng，看起来像是个华人，很牛，http://www.research.microsoft.com/scg/下面好多Paper是她写的。

Lili Cheng is the Group Manager of the Social Computing Group in Microsoft Research. Lili arrived in MSR back in 1995 as a member of the Virtual Worlds Group. She played a major role in the development of the Virtual Worlds Platform, lead the design and development of HutchWorld a shared space for cancer patients and their support network and she was a key member of the team that created Microsoft V-Chat. Before coming to Microsoft, she worked at Apple Computer in the Human Interface research group on a series of projects that integrated digital video technologies, including QuickTime VR and QuickTime Conferencing (real time, networked, collaboration software enabling data/audio/video communication). Prior to Apple, Lili was at NYU where she designed the user interface for YORB, a program broadcast tri-weekly on Manhattan cable. Using YORB, home viewers could navigate a 3-D world and share personal content and by speaking and using their touch tone telephone. Lili is also a registered architect and has worked for the architecture firm Skidmore Owings and Merrill designing urban, public spaces in both Tokyo and Los Angeles. She continues to participate in this field by guest lecturing at the Harvard Design School and working on projects with the MIT Architecture School.
