Maybe it's just my mood. It probably is. I receive a lot of email about job positions. In fact, I receive a lot of calls, too. Almost always both  voicemail and the email is deleted before I even reach the end. This one struck me especially grotesque. I admit I am being especially critical. But here was my interpretation from some key phrases sent to me by the 'headhunter'.

  • Typically works with minimum supervision, conferring with superior on unusual matters.
    • translates to:  poor management that is uninvolved and even refers to themselves as "superior"
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high intensity, performance-driven environment.
    • translates to: we don't know how to gauge performance except by how tight we set deadlines that the team that have to implement those timelines had no input into. Top-down organization driven by people in positions via the peter principle  or worse.  Plus an 80's style management philosophy.
  • ability to provide IT and project consulting to internal and external customers.
    • translates to: we don't really have a scope for your position- you will be expected to be everything to everyone and "superior" people aren't involved until you ass is in the fire
  • high degree of complexity, high risk, significant business change, high profile or customer facing
    • translate to: yet your 'superior' is not involved except in unusual matters. Seems to me that if it were so important, so high risk, such complexity the 'superior' would be involved.
